CHINESE MEDICINE
Traditional Chinese medicine, of which Acupuncture is a part, is a holistic system of healing which has diagnosed, treated, and prevented illness for thousands of years.

Based on the principles of internal balance and harmony, this highly refined and complex discipline works to refine or regenerate the body's organs and systems. It is effective for physical, psychological and emotional issues. By bringing the individual's system to a state of balance, one can enjoy higher performance levels in recovery, health, activity, and even rest.

Traditional Chinese medicine views each human as a mini-ecosystem. The basic principles of this complete medical model are:

• Causes of Disharmony
• Meridians
• Five Elements
• Vital Substances
• Yin and Tang
• Zangfu

The concept of vital energy, know as qi, is the basis of all life. In the body, qi is transported via the energetic pathways known as meridians. Although these meridians cannot be seen with the naked eye, modern science has proven their existence through electronic detection.

Each meridian connects to one of the major organs, bringing the qi, which powers the organ, enabling effective functioning. A person's constitution is also determined by the aspects of Yin and Yang. Harmony and balance of this union yields a healthy state, whereas disruption of balance leads to illness or greater potential for injury.

ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture, simply stated, is a health science which is used to successfully treat both pain and dysfunction in the body. Hair-thin needles are placed into the skin. The art and science of acupuncture involves the choice of points, direction and depth of insertion, and subtle manipulation of the needle. All of these factors determine the experience the patient will have while on the table and irrevocably, the ultimate outcome. Dr. Lerner practices a particular style of Japanese acupuncture. This method is extraordinarily painless and yet yields profound results.

Simply put, the points treated circulate energy though out the entire body. These points are connected in various ways to the organs, body structures and systems. Acupuncture works in a multitude of ways, but one of the most extraordinary, is the way it encourages, or reminds the body how to work more efficiently for itself. Aside from treating illness, pain, recovery, enhancing sport or mental functioning, acupuncture also effectively reduces stress levels and enhances immunity.

Science has come to recognize that human beings are complex bioelectrical systems. This understanding has been the foundation of traditional Chinese analysis and treatment for thousands of years.

"I have seen many acupuncturists over my lifetime as it is a modality that seems to really work for me and I have found that Dr Lerner is the best acupuncturist by whom I have had the fortune to be treated. I have had several serious health issues over the past few years and Dr Lerner has helped me tremendously in my recovery. The results of my treatment have been really good. I also appreciate that she is very precise with her needle placements and very careful not to cause pain, she also has a wonderful touch."
